Leadership, community and a life-changing opportunity with TQL Fast Track: Courtney’s trailblazing journey
Fast Track Program Relocation Series | Courtney, TQL Fast Track Learning and Development LeaderWhat is the TQL Fast Track Program? It is a performance-driven yet highly rewarding accelerated career path designed to turn driven individuals into elite logistics experts. It’s much more than an entry level sales job—it’s a launchpad for long-term corporate leadership development and career advancement.
No one embodies the grit required to excel in TQL sales quite like Courtney, a current Fast Track Learning and Development (L&D) Leader. Driven by the potential to find purpose and change her life, Courtney relocated to Cincinnati four years ago to join the Fast Track Sales Team. She came in with a mission to translate the resilience she learned from overcoming adversity in California into financial motivation through a meaningful career. As a foundational Fast Track trailblazer when the program was established at TQL HQ, Courtney’s story proves that with the right mindset, discipline and leadership support system, taking a leap of faith can be life-changing.
We sat down with Courtney to discuss her journey and how she uses her passion for leadership to provide Fast Track members with exclusive career mentorship, guidance, and leadership training support and set them up for success.
Embracing the challenge of the entry level sales career
Q: You initially relocated from California to Cincinnati through the Fast Track Sales Program. What ultimately led to your decision to make the cross-country move?
Courtney: Before TQL, I worked for a popular hotel chain making $20,000 a year. I was homeless and wanted to bet on myself to take a shot at something more than what I had. I didn’t have sales experience, and I wanted the challenge. I loved the fact that TQL embraced and nurtured my work ethic because previous jobs didn’t offer the opportunity to go all-in and work toward something.
Q: How did you succeed in a high-pressure sales environment?
Courtney: It took me about 9 months after training to hit success and see commission. To build my book of business, I came in early, stayed late and even came in to work on Saturdays when I wasn’t scheduled. I believe my level of investment brought me success quicker because of the sacrifices I made from Day 1.
Q: What kept you motivated and consistent on hard days to ultimately pave the path to success for future Fast Track members?
Courtney: I’ve been through a lot in life, so I’m used to overcoming hard days. I wanted stability and financial freedom. I wanted to be able to provide for myself without having to rely on others. I also wanted to be in leadership, and a wise man once told me, “You can’t be a successful leader without a successful book of business.” I not only wanted to prove others wrong—I wanted to prove to myself that I was capable.
Q: You’re a trailblazer for the Fast Track Program. What does that mean to you, and how did all your hard work in sales pay off personally?
Courtney: Someone once told me I was the “queen of Fast Track” and I wasn’t sure how to take it. It’s hard for me to celebrate my own success sometimes, but the ability to inspire and encourage others is a privilege every day. My hard work paid off and still continues to. TQL has given me the opportunity to find the stability I always envisioned for myself with a home and a community of great friends.
From Sales Leader to Leadership Development Coach
Q: You used your passion for mentorship on the sales floor to land a role enabling the next generation of Fast Track leaders. What led to your decision to join the Learning and Development Team?
Courtney: It wasn’t an easy decision to step away from the sales floor, but I wanted purpose that aligned with my passion. I could have easily continued to lock in and dedicate the time and energy to work toward becoming a record-breaking broker myself, but I found my true calling in equipping others to achieve that goal.
Q: What is your approach to training and coaching?
Courtney: I meet people where they are. Everyone learns differently, and for me, I want to work alongside someone on that journey, bridge the gaps that might exist and encourage them to take the initiative to work toward their own growth. The people that I coach aren’t just a number; they all have a unique story and their own ‘why.’ The Fast Track Leadership Development Team plays more of a relational role than standard coaching and we tend to wear multiple different hats tailored to each individual we coach. We focus heavily on personal and skill development, empowering future leaders to build resilient mindsets and effective team management skills.
Q: How does your personal relocation experience shape the way you coach and support new Fast Track members today?
Courtney: My story shows that despite hurdles, you can be successful if you choose to overcome. Your mindset and discipline dictate your success. Because I’ve walked the path, I resonate with a lot of new Fast Track sales reps today. I believe my unique career journey provides hope for someone that might be struggling with doubt.
The Fast Track Sales career: A bet on yourself that pays off
Q: What would you say to a candidate who is currently on the fence about relocating with TQL Fast Track?
Courtney: The risk of relocating for a career can be stressful, but the reward is life-changing. The most beneficial part of the Fast Track program is the community, team camaraderie and resources that support you along the way. I’ve never worked for a company that embraces you as an individual and your potential like TQL does—from the welcoming Onboarding team on Day 1 to my Sales team as a broker and even the employees I’ve met at TQL events. I have been encouraged, challenged and inspired on so many different levels throughout my TQL journey.
Q: What are your top tips for soon-to-be Fast Track members to ensure they’re ready to hit the ground running on day one?
Courtney: I had less than a week to make it to Ohio when I was offered the position. Despite not knowing where I would live, I showed up and immersed myself in logistics. Going the extra mile and taking initiative contributed to my success. I didn’t wait for someone to teach me something—I went out of my way to ask for it.
My biggest piece of advice is to go out of your way to take initiative. If you were offered the position, it means your hiring manager believes in your potential and thinks you have what it takes. This job comes with sacrifice: time, effort and overcoming hardships. Trust the process when you are in training, ask for help when you need it and find ways to accomplish more than what is asked of you.
