Is TQL Fast Track worth it? Noah’s San Diego to Cincinnati relocation review
Fast Track Program Relocation Series | Noah, Fast Track Sales Group LeaderRelocation Spotlight: Joining the TQL Fast Track community in Cincinnati
Uprooting your life for an entry level career is a huge decision, especially when it takes you to the other side of the nation to enter the fast-paced world of third-party logistics. Success in sales doesn’t come easy – it requires an all-in mindset and an unparalleled commitment to doing whatever it takes to be the best.
Today, we hear from Noah, a California native who relocated across the country to join the TQL Fast Track Program in our Erlanger office. Noah’s athletic background as a former high school quarterback and basketball player propels him on the TQL sales floor, where he taps into his competitive drive and leadership instincts to manage a high-earning book of business.
The San Diego to Cincinnati pivot
Q: What was it about TQL that made you want to pack up and leave San Diego to move to Erlanger, Kentucky?
Noah: There were a few things about TQL that really stood out to me, one being the unlimited growth that TQL offers. I was really looking for a career path that I could excel in, both financially and in leadership. TQL has both. With uncapped commission, the amount of work you’re willing to put in is what you're going to get out of it.
That’s how I’ve always lived my life playing sports growing up. It was always, "How much work am I going to put in during the summer? That's what I'm going to see on the field come fall." My competitive drive came from playing football, so I just brought that athlete mindset into TQL. As far as relocating from San Diego, I had never been this far east before and I wanted to see what the rest of the United States had to offer. I enjoy experiencing four seasons, and I love it out here.
Q: A lot of candidates worry about the social reality of moving across the country alone. What was the relocation process actually like for you?
Noah: I think the Fast Track Program is one of TQL's greatest opportunities because there is so much more you get from relocating on top of significant financial help. Once you get here in the office, you learn from so many different people.
One thing that stood out is that my recruiter set me up with my roommate, Matthew, who is also part of Fast Track. He had already found housing, so I just applied, got accepted and we instantly hit it off. We've both been here a year now. We started the same day and I couldn't have asked for a better roommate. That's all thanks to the Fast Track Program. You instantly connect with other Fast Trackers because we all have something in common: we moved here from different parts of the country and can learn from and lean on each other.

Inside the grind: 26-week training and thriving under pressure
Q: You mentioned that you thrive in a chaotic space. What does the actual training and workload look like at TQL?
Noah: During your first six weeks, you should strive to be at your broker's hip. Whatever they are doing, you should imitate. Run their accounts to the best of your ability so that when you start the sales portion of training and you're growing your own book of business, you know exactly what to do.
The first six weeks, you're coming in early in the morning—I get up at 5 a.m. every day now—and you're making check calls to drivers, seeing if they've delivered, and working on building shipments for your broker mentor. You're learning logistics terminology and all the different modes and services we offer in addition to the different lanes across America. You must multitask and thrive under pressure. It's a lot like trading stock options, which I used to do. You have a split second to make the right decision, whether that's with a carrier or a customer.
Q: How do you handle the cold calling and prospecting side of the business without getting discouraged?
Noah: Prospecting comes with confidence over the phone. When you make your first ten calls, even your first one hundred calls, you’re not going to sound perfect. You've never done this before! But once you get into a groove, everything falls into place. All of a sudden, you close one customer, then you close a second customer, and it just keeps going.
The hardest part of working in the logistics industry at TQL is definitely the ups and downs. You're going to have bad weeks, and you're going to have great weeks. It's really about finding a consistent middle ground.
Looking Ahead: An Entrepreneurial Mindset
Q: How does an entrepreneurial mindset tie into being a freight broker?
Noah: Running a book of business here is the closest thing to true entrepreneurship. I’ve wanted to build a company from the ground up since I was a kid, and being a TQL sales representative gives me that exact framework to run my own business under their umbrella. The relationships I build with my customers are the same skills I used to resell shoes and shirts when I was younger.
Q: Where do you see your career heading next?
Noah: I'm very close to reaching success as a broker, and I see myself in a leadership role here soon and continuing to advance from there. From a young age, it was always my goal to be a leader in my career. Being a TQL sales representative is a lot like being a quarterback – you earn that leadership role, and your hard work and preparation directly dictate your results on the field.
TQL Fast Track has unparalleled leadership support from the top down to help you succeed, especially in our Erlanger office. If I ever relocate again, I know we have a beautiful satellite office right on the bay in Tampa, Florida. That career mobility is just one of the many reasons why joining Fast Track was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Life in Greater Cincinnati and a welcoming Fast Track Program community
Q: Moving from the West Coast to the Midwest is a notable shift. How have you adjusted to life in the Cincinnati area outside of the office?
Noah: I plan on being at TQL and in the Cincinnati area for the rest of my career. Coming from the West Coast, the people here in the Midwest are amazing and very welcoming. Outside of the office, I'm a big golfer now. I just learned when I got out here, but now I love it and play three or four times a week across the numerous golf courses in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati.
The lifestyle here is great. The Bengals and Reds stadiums are within walking distance of each other, the nightlife is great, and the restaurants are amazing – the food here is the best I've ever had. My mom, grandma, grandpa, brother and best friends have come out to visit me multiple times and they all absolutely love the area.
Q: What has been your favorite corporate event or Fast Track Program perk since arriving?
Noah: My favorite TQL events are definitely FC Cincinnati games. It’s so cool that we have the naming rights to TQL Stadium and that we get free tickets to games and sit with a whole section of TQL employees after work. The Fast Track Program also hosts team outings like Reds games, and TQL Erlanger throws fun activities like patio parties and happy hours. Once you reach certain metrics, you get additional privileges, too.
