Former Bengals player Sam Hubbard and TQL sack hunger, hygiene needs with back-to-school kits

TQL announces $25,000 grant to the Sam Hubbard Foundation

By Shannon Russell

Retired Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard and TQL have more in common than just a Cincinnati hometown. They’re committed to helping local people in need.

TQL pledged a $25,000 matching grant to the Sam Hubbard Foundation in a July 10 charity event at Cincinnati HQ. Hubbard also helped 75 TQL’ers stuff 1,500 back-to-school kits with healthy snacks, hygiene products and supplies for Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy students.

The kits are part of Hubbard’s Cupboard program, which stocks free essentials at 36 area schools and allows kids to focus on learning instead of meeting basic needs. TQL’s contribution aims to support the program’s continued growth by encouraging support from other local businesses and helping it reach its goal of 70 cupboards across Greater Cincinnati by 2030.

Hubbard retired from the NFL in March after spending his entire seven-year career with the Bengals. He wrote in his retirement announcement that being a two-time nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award was his proudest accomplishment. The prestigious honor is given by the NFL to players who go above and beyond for community service and philanthropy.

Hubbard founded his foundation during the pandemic in 2020 to tackle food insecurity in Cincinnati and remains committed to leveling the playing field for underserved youth.

Hubbard and TQL Cares, TQL’s philanthropic arm, have teamed up since 2023. TQL sponsors a Hubbard’s Cupboard location, assists with an annual fowling tournament and amplifies volunteerism at Crayons to Computers. The nonprofit helps stock Hubbard’s Cupboards with essential supplies.

Hubbard said TQL’s $25,000 grant will provide healthy food to all of the Hubbard’s Cupboard schools in 2025, assisting over 15,000 students.

“I’m excited to keep working with TQL for a long time to make a difference right here at home,”
Hubbard said.

Hubbard’s mission to create access to food, education and healthy lifestyles for Greater Cincinnatians complement’s TQL’s commitment to charity. Through TQL Cares, employees channel their passion into millions of dollars in donations and thousands of volunteer hours every year. The TQL Foundation heightens the impact by aligning corporate donations and matching programs with causes TQL’ers care about most.

TQL Cares and the TQL Foundation have donated over $32.4 million to charity since 2006.
