Load Helps Feed 100,000 Sandwiches To Harvey Victims And Volunteers

Last week, as the nation was just beginning to understand the depth of Hurricane Harvey’s impact, we received a phone call from Chip Klosterman, CEO of Klosterman Baking Company. He wanted to donate a full truckload of bread to Matthew 25 Ministries to be used toward hurricane relief efforts, but needed help physically getting it there.

TQL didn’t hesitate.  Because TQL has access to a network of more than 60,000 carriers, we are able to quickly find a truck when others can’t.  TQL volunteered to not only find a truck, but cover the cost associated with transporting the bread to flood victims in Houston.

While the Klosterman team was busy baking, Matthew 25: Ministries got busy arranging the logistics with one of its partner organizations, CitiIMPACT.  They would receive the donation and make sandwiches for victims and volunteers. Once details were finalized, TQL connected with the carrier - TX Loadrunners and their driver, Mohammad.

Everything fell into place quickly, and the freshly baked load of bread hit the road Friday evening. The trip ran smoothly until the driver got to Houston.  With many roadways still closed, it took some live, turn-by-turn navigation help to finally get to CitiIMPACT’s donation and supply center in Houston.

The 13,000+ loaves of bread are now being used to make almost 100,000 sandwiches for Houston residents.

We are simultaneously humbled and proud to be a part of this donation. One of our core principles is “recognize the value of teamwork.” In this case, the teamwork didn’t just deliver freight. It delivered hope.

If you are a carrier or supply chain provider and you have services you’d like to offer for the Houston relief efforts, please contact the American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN). They are organizing donors and volunteers, matching them to organizations that need help.
