Ready, set, play: TQL hosts field day for Boys & Girls Club
Sixty kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati’s Jeff Wyler Club converged on TQL headquarters’ outdoor green space Sept. 15 for Field Day, an obstacle course and game-filled fun fest capped by a spirited water balloon fight.
Soon after their arrival, kids feasted on donated LaRosa’s pizza and Jungle Jim’s-provided fruit, granola bars and water.
Then the games began. The kids, divided into age groups and guided by TQL’s 36 volunteers, competed in a water relay, played freeze tag, navigated a giant inflatable slide, tried their luck at a Wipeout obstacle course and carried a combined 200-plus eggs on spoons in a game that ended by throwing the eggs at targets.
“The best part was seeing how excited the kids were to be outside playing around,” TQL volunteer Joe W. said.
The club’s headquarters, located just 1.4 miles from TQL, has classrooms and a gymnasium but no outdoor green space. TQL hosted the kids on a grassy field with plenty of room to run, play and have fun.
Fellow volunteer Dianne S. said Wipeout and freeze tag were among the kids’ favorites during a fun but warm afternoon.
“Too hot for freeze tag, they said it should be called ‘hot tag,’” Dianne said.
She said giving back to the community was the best part of the event, which continued with a group photo and water balloon fight waged with over 800 balloons. Joe agreed.
“I see value in TQL employees being able to give back and spend time with young people in our community, and for the kids to have a day of fun and interaction with other adults,” Joe said.
The Boys & Girls Club helps young people, especially those in need, reach their potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. TQL has hosted field days since 2017 and given charitably to the organization with a combined $315,000 in donations since 2016, including a $50,000 matching grant this year.
