They hand out cookies to the people who come, yes. But what’s really sweet is a chance to get an inside look at the second-largest logistics company in the country.

Total Quality Logistics begins its month-long, nationwide series of intern open houses today in nine cities, including headquarters in Cincinnati. Applicants for summer internships get a taste of what it means to have a professional sales job.

Other cities opening their doors today include Atlanta, Austin, Charleston (S.C.), Charlotte, Columbus, Denver, Jacksonville and Nashville.

TQL’s 10 week program provides 40 hours per week of hands-on logistics training, offering professional development, sales and negotiation experience to full-time college juniors and seniors. Interns also regularly participate in community service, team building and company social activities.

Many current TQL employees started as interns. Mitchell M.'s journey with TQL began in Cincinnati during a summer internship in 2009. One year later he was working full time. He is grateful for the head start his internship provided. "I knew exactly what I was getting myself into starting full time. It gave me a leg up against other people because I already knew how to operate our systems and was placed on one of the busiest accounts where I was able to learn even more." Mitchell is now a sales team lead for the company in Texas.

Upcoming TQL intern open houses include:

March 11: Lexington

March 13: Cleveland and Fort Lauderdale

March 20: Dayton, Detroit, Louisville, Mobile and Pittsburgh

March 27: Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, Orlando and St. Louis
