The More You Know: Let The Good Times Roll

Mardi Gras parade float

Thousands of people are traipsing through the French Quarter collecting beads and munching on yummy King Cake during this year's Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, LA. But did you know this annual mega-party did not originate in the Big Easy?

Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama is the city's annual Carnival celebration and is the oldest annual Carnivale celebration in the United States starting in 1703, which was 15 years before New Orleans was founded.

Although festivities in New Orleans are more widely known, you can still find Mobile celebrating through various public parades complete with throws from floats, including plastic bead necklaces, stuffed animals, wrapped cakes and many other fun items.

Whether in New Orleans or in Mobile, laissez les bon temps roulez!
