1,200 Hours, $13,250 Donated to 50+ Charities During National Volunteer Week

Cincinnati, OH – Total Quality Logistics posed a challenge to its employees during National Volunteer Week last month – go out and give back. More than 600 employees from 70 teams across the country responded, completing a total of 53 projects for non-profit organizations nationwide. In total, TQL employees volunteered more than 1,200 hours, the equivalent of one person working full-time for eight months.

“Our people are a talented, hard-working and compassionate group and it is not at all surprising to see them embrace this challenge,” said Kerry Byrne, President. “National Volunteer Week not only helped build camaraderie and teamwork, but created an opportunity for our employees to feel more deeply connected to their communities,” he added.

Between April 22-29th, employees were encouraged to sign up to volunteer for one of 53 projects organized throughout the country. Projects ranged from community cleanups and housing improvement projects to volunteer efforts that supported impoverished adults and children.

In Ft. Lauderdale, employees volunteered to play basketball, flag football, pool and foosball with young members of the Boys & Girls Clubs, one of the more popular events of the campaign.

“The club was very pleased with how we got along with the kids and the engagement that took place; it was hard just to even walk out without the kids following and asking us how soon we would be back,” said one TQL employee, who was humbled to give back to an organization he personally benefitted from as a child.

“We very much appreciate the way that your company invests both time and funds to make the community a better place,” said Kristen Quimby, who oversaw a similar volunteer event at the Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis.

In addition to the volunteer hours, TQL will be donating $13,250 to various nonprofits through the company’s team volunteering grant. TQL provides a $250 grant to each nonprofit supported by a service project. This program is available year-round to any TQL team that volunteers.

National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration observed in many countries to promote and show appreciation for volunteering. It was established in 1974 by Presidential Proclamation 4288. A new proclamation has been issued by the President of the United States each year since its inception.
