The People Behind The Wheel: TQL recognizes truck drivers during Appreciation Week

TQL Foundation invests $100,000 to support drivers and their families through health, financial assistance and safety programs

Every day, truck drivers spend long hours on the road, often traveling far from home and carrying the goods communities depend on.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sept. 13-19, is an opportunity to recognize the people who keep freight moving across North America.

TQL has long supported professional drivers, their families and the trucking community. In honor of this year’s appreciation week, the TQL Foundation donated $75,000 to St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund and $25,000 to Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT).

Supporting drivers when they need it most
Life on the road can make it difficult for drivers to prioritize their health or weather an unexpected setback.

An illness or injury can mean more than a trip to the doctor. For a professional driver, being unable to work can also mean being unable to earn a living. That can create financial pressure for the entire family.

St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund helps drivers and their families through those difficult moments. The nonprofit provides financial assistance to drivers facing unexpected illness or injury, along with health and wellness programs designed around the realities of life on the road.

Its programs include:

• Cancer Screening & Early Detection: Preventive resources and at home screening options that promote early detection.
• GPS: Get Preventative Screening: screenings that help drivers identify health concerns before they become serious.
• Diabetes Prevention & Management: Education, monitoring tools and support to help drivers manage or reduce diabetes risk.
• Rigs Without Cigs: Tobacco cessation coaching and quit kits tailored to life on the road.
• Healthy Habits for the Long Haul: Heart health education and blood pressure screenings.
• Vaccine Voucher Program: Vouchers that help uninsured drivers access recommended immunizations.

Taking care of yourself isn't always easy when the job means spending days or weeks on the road. TQL’s support helps St. Christopher expand these programs and meet the needs of drivers and their families.

Standing against human trafficking
Truck drivers also have a unique opportunity to help protect people who may be vulnerable.

TAT works with the trucking industry to educate drivers and other transportation professionals about human trafficking and how to recognize and report potential signs.

Because drivers travel thousands of miles and visit communities across the country, they may encounter situations others never see. TAT gives them the knowledge and resources to recognize potential signs of trafficking and safely report concerns.
TAT’s work includes:

• Driver training that teaches how to spot signs of trafficking and how to safely report them.
• Mobile education exhibits that travel to industry events and terminals to provide hands on learning.
• Awareness materials (wallet cards, decals and digital resources) that keep critical information accessible while drivers are on the road.

TQL’s support helps TAT reach more drivers with the training and resources they need to recognize and report potential trafficking.

Visible show of appreciation
TQL is recognizing drivers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week with appreciation giveaways, social spotlights and support for nonprofits that serve the trucking community.

The company is displaying an “American Pride: Delivered by Truck Drivers” banner on the side of its Cincinnati headquarters facing Interstate 275, where tens of thousands of trucks and cars pass each day. TQL also invites carriers to participate in a Facebook contest from Sept. 13-19 celebrating the pets that keep them company on the road.

Truck drivers play an essential role in keeping the supply chain moving, and TQL is proud to recognize their contributions during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
