TQL Foundation celebrates 120 years of Big Brothers Big Sisters

Two hundred Big/Little matches treated to summer picnic, day of entertainment at Kings Island

Cincinnati, OH (Aug. 1, 2023) — Total Quality Logistics (TQL), the second-largest freight brokerage firm in North America and Cincinnati’s largest private company, teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati to celebrate the organization’s 120th anniversary.

The TQL Foundation honored its 13-year partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati and the milestone anniversary by inviting over 200 Big/Little matches to a July 29 picnic at Kings Island amusement park and its water park, Soak City, in Mason, Ohio.

TQL has hosted its employees and their families at a companywide Summer Picnic at the venue for the last five years. In keeping with the tradition, TQL was honored to host community members in a day of entertainment, food and fun.

Bigs and Littles were treated to bingo with prizes, face painting, a themed photobooth and a picnic lunch.

Great-grandchildren of Irvin F. Westheimer, the founder of Big Brothers Big Sisters, attended the celebration. On July 4, 1903, Westheimer befriended a young boy who was going through trash cans searching for food. Westheimer encouraged friends to become mentors to other area children and is credited with the vision that became the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in America.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati strengthens our communities and provides a valuable support system for youths,” said TQL President Kerry Byrne. “We are proud to partner with this impactful organization. It is our honor to celebrate its 120th anniversary.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati is an affiliate of the oldest and most respected mentoring organization in the United States. The nonprofit is mission driven, performance based and professionally managed to provide high quality one-to-one mentoring services. It serves 1,000-plus children each year across 13 counties in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

“Experiences like this offer Bigs and Littles the chance to strengthen their bond and share an activity free of charge, one they may not have been able to afford otherwise,” said Deb Haas, PR/Marketing Manager of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati. “As a nonprofit agency, this summer picnic could never have happened on this scale without the generosity of TQL to ensure 100 Bigs and 100 Littles had a day that will surely count among the 'Best Things I Did This Summer.'”
