Women succeed in logistics sales. Here’s how at TQL

Inside TQL Sales: Women Winning in Logistics

Logistics has historically been viewed as a male-dominated industry, but women are building successful, long-term careers in freight brokerage. At Total Quality Logistics (TQL), they have the opportunity to do just that. Success at TQL is strictly performance-driven. Measurable results dictate promotions, paychecks and long-term career growth, regardless of gender or background. The best of the best freight brokers at TQL show up consistently and invest in building strong relationships with their customers. In a high-velocity sales environment like TQL, focusing on what you can control matters more than industry demographics.

Can women succeed at TQL?

Yes, women succeed at TQL, holding spots among sales leadership, top brokers and President’s Club qualifiers. Sales in third-party logistics operates on a merit-based framework. Freight brokers take an entrepreneurial role, building their book of business by earning customers’ trust through resilience, reliability and an unmatched commitment to providing world-class customer service. That’s why commission and advancement opportunities at TQL are determined entirely by individual performance and daily execution.

Does gender impact promotions or earnings at TQL?

Entering supply chain industry dynamics can seem intimidating, but the day-to-day reality on the TQL sales floor is centered around execution, structured support and advancement opportunities driven by performance. Corporate politics, stereotypes and even tenure carry no weight in freight brokerage. Earning potential, upward mobility and overall success are dictated by the effort you put in. TQL provides all Logistics Account Executive Trainees with the same internal resources to succeed: base salary, cutting-edge technology, hands-on training and mentorship from the top down. This ensures that anyone willing to put in the work can achieve financial freedom and upward trajectory in a long-term career.

What support is there for Women in Logistics?

TQL’s longest-standing employee-led resource group, Women in Logistics (WIL), was established in 2013 as a nationwide, cross-functional support system that connects and advances female professionals across the business. WIL provides structured mentorship opportunities, executive networking and professional development opportunities that foster camaraderie and accelerate success in a male-dominated field and industry.

TQL Louisville top performer Q&A: What actually drives success in sales at TQL?

The combination of TQL’s entirely merit-based framework and top-notch professional development resources ensures equal access to the resources needed to outwork competitors and build a thriving career in supply chain. Today, we hear from senior TQL sales representative Megan, who discusses her experience overcoming industry assumptions and how performance and work ethic can help women build credibility in logistics.

Q: What is it like entering a male-dominated industry like freight brokerage?

Megan:
I wasn't necessarily concerned about working in a male-dominated industry, but I did wonder whether I would have to work harder to establish credibility early on. What I learned quickly is that performance, professionalism and consistency speak for themselves regardless of gender.

I was drawn to the opportunity to build something of my own. The idea that my effort directly impacted my success was very appealing. TQL also offered a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same, which fit my personality and competitive nature.

Q: What are the biggest misconceptions about working in logistics sales?

Megan: I assumed logistics sales was mostly negotiating rates and booking trucks. In reality, it's much more relationship-driven. Success comes from understanding customers' businesses, solving problems and building trust over time.

Sales is competitive by nature, but I was surprised by how willing people were to share knowledge, answer questions and help each other succeed. Many of the mentors who helped me most throughout my career were people who had already achieved a great deal of success themselves.

I had leaders and teammates who were willing to answer questions, share what worked for them and help me learn the business.

Q: What key qualities determine long-term success in freight brokerage sales?

Megan: Consistency more than anything. There are definitely peaks and valleys, but the people who show up every day, put in work and keep pushing forward are usually the ones who succeed. Being coachable and building strong relationships is a must. I've found that customers and colleagues respond to competence, reliability and follow-through more than anything else.

Q: What advice do you have for women considering a career in sales at TQL?

Megan: Go for it. Don't let preconceived ideas about the industry stop you. If you're willing to work hard, stay resilient, and keep learning, there are a lot of opportunities here. Some of the best growth happens when you put yourself outside your comfort zone.

The TQL Reality: Results speak for themselves

In third-party logistics, performance isn’t subjective – it’s measured in your ability to solve problems, deliver for customers and establish a book of business. When a truck breaks down at night or an urgent delivery experiences delays in transit, customers and carriers care about one thing: a broker who answers the phone, takes action decisively and gets the job done right.

TQL’s metrics-driven path to success ensures that what you put in directly dictates upward mobility and high earning potential. TQL focuses on clear performance metrics rather than corporate politics, giving everyone the same tools and resources to build a long-term sales career.

  • Equal access to earning potential: Commission is uncapped and transparent, awarded entirely based on revenue generated by your book.
  • Objective path to leadership: You control your career advancement based on hitting metric milestones and your peer coaching potential.
  • Resilience equals retention: Brokers who develop trust and long-term investment from their customers build resilient books that withstand both loose and tight freight markets.

For women looking for a highly rewarding career with exceptional advancement and earning potential, third-party logistics has an abundance of opportunity. Supported by internal networks like Women in Logistics (WIL) and backed by industry-leading technology and training, TQL can change the lives of those who come in ready to work hard and show up for their customers 24/7/365.
