Pow! Boom! TQL superhero-themed summer picnic draws record crowd

Fun and games abounded at Total Quality Logistics’ biggest-ever Summer Picnic, a superhero-themed event at Kings Island that drew a record 3,700 TQL attendees.

TQL employees and their families received parking vouchers and admission passes to Kings Island amusement park – home to 14 roller coasters – and its water park, Soak City. The June 25 celebration featured a three-hour company picnic in a reserved grove.

TQL’s fourth straight summer event at Kings Island outdrew the 2021 edition by 1,190 guests. The 2022 event also marked the first full-scale company picnic since 2019 due to the pandemic.

Picnic-goers stopped by a festive tent where children were given tote bags that looked like superhero capes. Water bottles were tucked inside. Kids also could grab craft projects – superhero masks – to take with them.

Children had opportunities to shoot baskets, kick soccer balls and throw footballs in an inflated apparatus operated by TQL Cares. For each basket, goal or accurate throw, kids earned tickets to vote for one of three charities. TQL Cares made a $5,000 collective donation to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity at the event’s conclusion.

“It was really fun to watch the kids play and get excited to donate. We were able to talk to children about charities and what their votes meant,” said Angela H., TQL’s Corporate Giving Specialist.

The kids who participated in the sports games also received TQL sunglasses.

In other parts of the grove, balloon artists fashioned animals and swords while Wonder Woman and Spider-Man posed with families in a superhero photo booth.

Face-painting was another big hit. Families flocked to a covered patio where nine artists painted the faces of the young and old(er) with kitties, tigers, flowers, clownfish, sharks, baseballs, dragons and more.

An hourlong bingo game preceded a buffet-style meal. TQL’ers and their guests feasted on hamburgers, chicken tenders, chips, fruit, beans, macaroni and cheese, cookies and drinks.

Event Specialist Shanna H. said TQL’s team of 28 volunteers facilitated “an experience like no other” that fostered good memories for years to come by making sure each person had a good time.
