Leadership Role Familiar, Comfortable

EVANSVILLE (Ind.) – It didn’t take long.

Not even three years into his career at Total Quality Logistics - which began in October 2013 at TQL Louisville - Cory Denbo opened his own office and is satellite office leader for Team Evansville.

Starting with a founding team of five people on Jan 25, TQL Evansville has grown more than fourfold to 22 people in the five months since.

As TQL celebrates Military Month this July, Denbo gives some of the credit to his time in the United States Marine Corps. He served from 2005 to 2009 and was honorably discharged after a broken leg suffered in an auto accident prevented him from combat duty overseas.

Still, the lessons he learned in the Corps continue to resonate.

“That’s one thing a lot of STLs ask me; they want to know how I did it so quickly,” Denbo said. “I’ve been leading since I was 19 years old. I’m used to it. I’ve been around great leaders since I was a young private in the Marine Corps. You learn from that and you apply it.”

“I guess I’m happy with how we’ve started in Evansville, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be satisfied with where I am. That’s another similarity between TQL and the Marines. You’re always pushing to be your absolute best.”

That kind of commitment and effort is just one reason TQL values its military team members.

“We hire veterans and active duty members of the military because they possess the skills and values we are looking for – an outstanding work ethic, the ability to learn new skills quickly, and the tenacity for creating success in any situation,” said TQL President Kerry Byrne.

“The U.S. Marine Corps and rest of the military are the best,” Denbo said. “Same thing with TQL. I do enjoy that comparison and sometimes overlook it because I'm so used to it. It takes a different kind of person to want to work as hard as we do.”
