TQL Sponsors CYC Trivia Night

A Group Of Men With Drinks Playing Trivia

Rhinegeist translates to “ghost of the Rhine.”

Suffice it to say spirits – in just about every sense of the word – ran high as TQL sponsored Trivia Night benefitting Cincinnati Youth Collaborative.

The Feb. 25 event drew about 50 teams to the Over-the-Rhine brewery to compete for a top prize of … you guessed it … Rhinegeist beer.

TQL teams like the Periodic Table Dancers, I Love Weiner Dogs, We’re So Smrt, First Avengers, First Avengers Are Cheating, Suck It Trebek and Get Off My Lawn matched wits in the competition emceed by Local 12 morning anchor Bob Herzog.

CYC helps kids stay in school – 95 percent of its students complete high school - and prepare for a career or college by providing mentors and tutoring. CYC has partnerships with Cincinnati Public, Winton Woods, North College Hill and Norwood school districts.

This was the fourth straight year TQL sponsored trivia night. The company also sponsors the CYC annual golf outing and has donated more than $30,000 since 2013.

Those funds assist people like Shandreanna Martin, who grew up poor in a single-parent home with a mother who fell victim to drug abuse.

“If it wasn’t for CYC I would have lost hope,” Martin said while thanking the participants for their support. “CYC was a ray of light for me.”

Her mentors guided Martin to create a portfolio to get into the School of Creative and Performing Arts, gave her a place to stay with no worries about when or where her next meal was coming and helped meet costs for books in college.

In May 2015, Martin graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in communications, earning her a standing ovation from the crowd.
