HR, Claims Teams Take Family Under Wing

A pair of Cincinnati teams adopted families in need to make their Christmases merry and bright.

At TQL’s corporate headquarters, human resources continued the work it began with Beech Acres Parenting Center back in 2013.

“We work with them during the year, donating backpacks and school supplies in the fall and adopting a family for the holiday season,” said HR executive assistant Deb Pitel. “We sponsored a family because we don’t want any children to go without gifts on Christmas.

“Our family consisted of three boys - ages 17, 12 and 10 - plus their grandparents. We bought household items the family needed and specific toys that each boy requested.”

Deb’s favorite Christmas gift growing up was her first bicycle, purple with a white basket and streamers on the handlebars.

“I had never owned anything as cool as that and I loved the freedom it gave me,” she said. “The coolest thing we donated was a skateboard and helmet for the 10-year-old. We hope he finds a lot of joy from that skateboard.”

Up the road a bit at the Edison office in Milford, the claims team worked with St. Vincent de Paul to adopt a family of its own. Theirs included a single mom and three young sons.

“We have adopted a family or a group of seniors for the last five or six years,” said claims coordinator Angie F. “There are so many people in need and we wanted to give them a great Christmas.

“We have worked with St. Vincent de Paul in the past. We know they are a trusted organization and people who go there are in need of a great holiday for their children.”

Among the gifts collected were food, pots and pans, an mp3 player, a cd player, an art easel and clothes. The team’s favorite item to give? The food.

“I know that sounds kind of odd, however this time of year kids are out of school. Many families use the school breakfast and lunch to feed their children. With school out, the kids sometimes have nothing to eat at home. When we give them the gift package of food, we know the kids will have something on the table.”

TQL Cares for the Holidays shines a spotlight on what some of our people and teams around the company and country are doing to make their communities better during this traditional season of giving.
