TQL, Reds Celebrate Beginning Of Baseball Season
The only thing as hot as TQL is the Cincinnati Reds. America’s original professional baseball team is off to a great start and they visited TQL corporate headquarters on Thursday evening, April 9, after wrapping up a 3-2 walk-off win against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Catcher Brayan Pena, broadcaster Jeff “The Cowboy” Brantley, mascot Mr. Redlegs and Reds Community Fund director Charlie Frank stopped by for a patio party celebrating all things baseball.
Brantley discovered a new career path should the radio gig collapse.
“I think I’d want to work here,” he said in his trademark Mississippi drawl before addressing the crowd. “It’s a party in here. It’s bumping.”
Frank was similarly impressed, especially as TQL President Kerry Byrne presented a $15,000 check to the Reds Community Fund on behalf of the company.
“We’re doing a lot of good things in this city, but we couldn’t do any of it without the help of people like you,” Frank said. “This is the kind of support that makes Cincinnati so special.”
Pena told of his journey to the United States after defecting from Cuba as a teen. He also described icing his hand after catching 100-plus m.p.h. fastballs from countryman Aroldis Chapman and joked about Joey Votto’s conversations with umpires.
TQL employees enjoyed food catered by City Barbecue and several craft beers provided by Rhinegeist Brewery – including the aptly named Hustle, a rye pale ale – and took photos with the celebrity visitors.
TQL also gave away several pairs of Reds tickets - as well as autographed baseballs, caps and visors – as part of an in-house raffle.
Up next? A horse race. For the Reds, it comes in the form of the National League Central as they try to hold on for the series win today. For TQL, it’s the famous Kentucky Derby Day Party scheduled for April 30.
