TQL Urban Race Unleashed On The City Of Cincinnati, With The Help Of The Flying Pig
Cincinnati - Total Quality Logistics (TQL) will bring one of the newest crazes in running to the city of Cincinnati this October with its first annual TQL Urban Race.
An urban race is an obstacle-style run that aims to test runners' strength and stamina, as well as their speed. It is held on city streets and provides dozens of grueling hurdles to challenge competitors' physical limits.
"TQL Urban Race will reflect, in many ways, the culture of our company – competitive, challenging, daring, but ultimately very rewarding for those who are willing to put in the hard work," said Jeff Montelisciani, TQL senior vice president of sales.
TQL has partnered with AGAR, a downtown Cincinnati creative agency, and The Flying Pig Marathon to plan, produce, and execute the race, which will take place Saturday, October 12, 2013. The race will consist of a 5K course through the streets of downtown Cincinnati, starting and ending in newly renovated Washington Park. The official TQL Urban Race course will be announced later in the month.
"We have wanted to bring an urban race to the city of Cincinnati, so we were very pleased when TQL approached us with this concept. It is going to be another outstanding road race that will attract runners of all ages and abilities to our city for the challenge and the fun and we're proud to be a part of it" said Iris Simpson Bush, Executive Director of the Flying Pig Marathon.
A portion of the proceeds from TQL Urban Race will be donated to the Marvin Lewis Community Fund and the Reds Community Fund.
"Our goal is to make TQL Urban Race a flagship event for our company and the Cincinnati community. This is our hometown, and it is our responsibility and privilege to give back and make this a great place to work, live, and play," said Montelisciani.
The Marvin Lewis and Reds Community Funds were chosen as beneficiaries of the event because of their commitment to providing opportunities for at-risk youth in the community through sports and education. Health and wellness, kids, and education are focus areas of TQL's community service initiatives through its TQL Cares program.
"This is going to be an outstanding community partnership and the funds raised will make a substantial impact on the lives of tri-state children," said Barbara Dundee, executive director of the Marvin Lewis Community Fund.
"The Reds Community Fund is thrilled to be included in this exciting new event. The charitable proceeds will benefit our baseball and softball programs aimed at inner-city and underserved kids, including our Urban Youth Academy which begins construction in Roselawn this summer," said Charley Frank, executive director of the Reds Community Fund.
Course obstacles will be unveiled to the public throughout the summer, but TQL is offering a few hints to competitors. "Think climbing over semi-trucks, hurdling over cement barricades, and hauling pallets," said Montelisciani.
Registration for the TQL Urban Race begins today. Early bird registration costs only $45 and includes an official race T-shirt, race medal, and admittance to post-race festivities.
"The race itself is going to be challenging," said Montelisciani. "But it also is going to be a lot of fun. This is going to be a party so it will appeal to runners, spectators and volunteers alike."
