TQL Named Best Employer By Business North Carolina

Charlotte   Total Quality Logistics (TQL) has been selected as one of the 2013 Best Employers in North Carolina by Business North Carolina, in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – NC State Council and Best Companies Group.

TQL will triple the workforce of its Charlotte team in the next three years, adding approximately 100 salespeople to its growing office. The three year old office is located in South Park and currently employs 35.

TQL is one of just 21 companies named to this year’s Best Employers in North Carolina list. TQL was also just ranked among the nation’s 150 Top Workplaces in one of the largest-ever surveys of U.S. companies, with more than 1 million employees participating nationwide.

TQL is the second largest freight brokerage in the nation, specializing in truckload transportation. They are the middleman between shippers who have freight that needs to be moved with carriers who have the capacity to move it. The company is headquartered in Cincinnati and for the past four years has been pursuing an aggressive national expansion strategy, opening 16 satellite offices across the country with plans of more to come.

The company’s rapid expansion offers its employees tremendous upward mobility due to the number of leaders it needs to open new offices and train new sales teams. “More than 90% of our current sales leadership team has been promoted from within,” said Kerry Byrne, TQL executive vice president.

TQL’s satellite offices also provide the company the opportunity to attract hard working and ambitious salespeople to an industry they may not have considered before. New hires with the company participate in a rigorous logistics and sales training program before starting to hunt for new clients.

Once training is completed, the company offers its employees the opportunity to earn unlimited commissions in addition to their base salary. The average compensation for a salesperson who has been selling with TQL for only two years is more than $60,000. For the top 20% of sales people in the company, that number hurdles to an average of more than $100,000.

TQL emphasizes to all those considering a job with the company that it is a challenging job in an extremely fast-paced and competitive industry. “Work ethic and tenacity are the primary components of success,” said Byrne.
