TQL Donates $7,834 To Yellow Ribbon Support Center

Union Township-Total Quality Logistics, a third party logistics company in Union Township, has donated $7,854 to the Yellow Ribbon Support Center’s “Let Us Never Forget” Scholarship Fund. Total Quality Logistics donated $1 for each freight shipment they arranged during the Memorial Day week. Ken Oaks, President and CEO of Total Quality Logistics, presented the donation check to Keith Maupin on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 9.

"We're fortunate enough to be in a position to help," said Kerry Byrne, TQL's Executive Vice President. "Really, from our perspective, it's an obligation and a responsibility. Think of it as, 'We can and therefore we should.’"

The Yellow Ribbon Support Center was chosen as the beneficiary of the campaign due to the local ties to Clermont County. The organization was founded by Keith Maupin in honor of his son, Matt who was the first POW/MIA of the Iraqi Freedom War. The “Let Us Never Forget” Scholarship Fund was created in respect to SSGT Matt Maupin and memorializes the date he went missing in Iraq. Each year, scholarships are awarded in the name of a fallen hero to a high school or college student chosen by the family of the fallen soldier.

“Due to TQL’s donation we are able to help a lot of individuals through our scholarship fund,” said June Izzi-Bailey of the Yellow Ribbon Support Center. “This donation will help us grant scholarships to individuals in over 25 states.”

The donation took place on Wednesday, June 9, at Total Quality Logistics’ headquarters in the Ivy Pointe Commerce Park in Union Township. The donation coincides with the unveiling of the company’s new Military Tribute and Memorial area. The area displays pictures and items from TQL employees who have served in various branches of the military, as well as items honoring local fallen heroes. Along with these initiatives to honor veteran and active military, TQL is also running a Support the Troops donation drive through Friday, June 18.

Total Quality Logistics first became involved with the Yellow Ribbon Support Center when Matt Maupin was laid to rest in 2008 by donating the use of its parking lot to funeral attendees. In 2009, TQL organized their first Memorial Day donation, raising over $5,500 for the scholarship fund. In addition, they sponsored a Father’s Day walk in June of 2009.
